The Russian visa is issued on the basis of the invitation to Russia. Foreign citizens, who wish to obtain a visa to Russia, should apply to the Russian Consulate for visa processing. The order of presentation of documents is governed directly by the Russian Federation mission abroad. Contact them directly for all the necessary information. The period during which the document is issued, depends on the respective consulate.The Consulate may request the following documents: Health Insurance confirmation, Availability of funds, Tourist Invitation, Passport (identity document), A completed application form, HIV free certificate.

Upon arrival in Russia, foreign citizens must register . It should be done during the first seven days of stay in the Russian Federation. You can do the registration through the agency or the organisation which brought you to Russia.

Tourist Visa:
Tourist visa can be obtained on the basis of an invitation from a tourist agency, registered with the Department of Consular Service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs according to the Russian law, or on the basis of a hotel confirmation. Tourist visas are issued for a period of up to 30 days.

Business Visa:
Business visa can be obtained on the basis of an invitation from The local department of the Passport and Visa Service (PVU) of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (for paper invitations) or the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (for telexes). The sponsoring organization must be officially registered with the PVU in order to apply for an invitation. Business visas are intended for foreign citizens who travel to Russia to meet their business partners, take part in negotiations, sign a contract, visit an exhibition, etc. You do not need to prepare hotel reservation or an itinerary to get a business visa. A business visa can be issued for up to 12 months (but no more than 90 days out of any 180 day period) and allow for unlimited entries, which is not possible with a tourist visa. 

Work Visa:
Work visa is required in case you wish to enter Russian Federation for employment. Work visa can be valid for up to 90 days and can be issued for single or double entry. Also work visa can be issued for multiple entries and can be valid for up to 3 years. Dates of validity of the visa will correspond with the dates mentioned on your letter of invitation issued by a Russian Federal Migration Service agency or a telex from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
